Below are some of the outstanding horses that Doug Milholland has trained. Many of them are reining industry icons-achieving superstar status in aged events and beyond with both Doug and other riders.

Silver Anniversary
Silver Anniversary was an orphaned filly that Doug trained, placing 6th at the Congress Futurity, and winning the 25th annual "Silver Anniversary" 1990 NRHA Open Futurity. Doug and the gray mare missed making the futurity finals by 1 point, but they won the Consolidation Futurity, which gave them a spot in the finals. They had to go first in the draw, but they still won it!


Rest Stop
Rest Stop was raised and trained by Doug, then sold to Marc Wagman. Doug showed this great mare to 3rd at the 1988 Congress and won the NRHA Open Futurity Reserve Championship. Marc then showed Rest Stop, winning numerous NP Championships. Rest Stop produced earners of $81,000+ including Tougher Than The Rest, Better Not Rest, Rest Up, Best Stop, and the 2003 high selling mare at the NRHA Select Sale.


Commandalena
Commandalena was trained by Doug as a 3 year old, then sold the buckskin stallion to Richard Berquist who went on to win many NRHA Non Pro and AQHA titles. In 2002 Commandalena was the AQHA Reserve Amateur Reining World Championship with Richard's daughter Christina Knox. In 2003, he was the AQHA Reserve World Champion in Sr Reining, and in 2004 he won the Open Reinings at the Derby and Futurity shows with Todd Crawford in the saddle.


As Smart As Charlie
Owned by Juergen Kalischinski, and trained at Doug Milholland Reining Horses, As Smart As Charlie was shown by Doug's assistant Andy Sherrerd to 3rd place in the Int. Open NRHA Futurity. Since then, As Smart As Charlie has gone on to do very well in Europe, including a 2nd place finish in the $125,000 Open in Mooslargue, France with Shawn Flarida. Currently, he is sitting in 2nd place in the NRHA Open World Championship standings.


How D Mae Bee
How D Mae Bee was one of the greatest horses Doug trained, placing 14th at the NRHA Futurity in 1982. They then won the 1983 NRHA Open Derby Championship, the AQHA World Championship in Jr Reining in 1983, and the AQHA World Championship in Sr Reining in 1984.


Smart Paul Olena
Doug showed this horse to 14th in the 1997 NRHA Open Futurity. Shown by current owner Meg Griffith-Ralston, Smart Paul Olena recently won the 2004 AQHA Amateur Reining Reserve World Championship, as well as the Non Pro, Affiliate Non Pro, Novice Horse Non Pro and Affiliate Novice Horse Non Pro class championships at the 2004 IRHA Mountain Affiliate Finals in South Jordan, UT. Aaron Ralson showed Smart Paul Olena to win the Reserve World Championship in AQHA Sr Reining.


Shining Salute
This horse was trained as a three year old by Doug Milholland, and has has been doing very well in 2004 for owner Ginger Tongyai in the Non Pro, and Rocky Dare in the Open. Among several wins this year, Ginger won the 2004 Northeast Classic Non Pro Derby and the 2004 Non Pro Championship at the Futurity. Fancy Jac
Doug rode this awesome mare to the NRHA Open Futurity Reserve Championship in 1992. She also was the Open Freestyle Champion at the 1993 Congress and 1993 Futurity with Doug aboard. A great producer, she is the mother to Shining Salute (see above).

Shiners Shinest
This horse was trained as a three year old by Doug Milholland, and has gone on to many recent success with non pro owner Pam Busch. This duo won the 2003 Ltd Non Pro Reserve Championship at the NRHA Championship Show. They also were the 2004 Ltd Non Pro Reserve Champions at the Denver Summer Slide, the 2004 RMQHA Champion of Champions, and the 2004 RMRHA Year End Ltd NP Champions.

My Krystal Cody
This horse was trained by Doug, but was shown in NRHA Non Pro and AQHA Amateur competition by Melinda Robb. With Doug's coaching, Melinda won the AQHA Amateur Reining World Championship in 1996.


Dusky Cody
This mare was trained by Doug, who then coached owner Melinda Robb on the mare to the AQHA World Championship in Amateur Reining in 1986. She then produced AQHA Amateur World Champion, My Krystal Cody (see above)


Genes German Melody
This horse was trained by Doug Milholland as a 3 and 4-year-old, and then sold to Steve Vaughn in Arizona. Steve then sold the horse to Gretchen Clark, whose husband David Clark won the 2004 AQHA Select World Championship in Cowhorse, and Heeling, and was 4th in Reining. Melonkali Jac
This dun gelding was trained by Doug as a 3 year old and eventually sold to NRHA trainer Charlie Smith's clients. With youth riders, Melonkali Jac has won many, many youth championships, and is currently leading the 2004 NRHA Youth 14-18 World Championship Standing with C R Hogendorp.


Genuine Shinola: This horse that was trained and shown by Doug in the NRHA Open Futurity for owner Lisa Cover. The next year, Lisa showed Genuine Shinola to many titles in non pro competition, including the 2001 NRBC Reserve Limited and Int Non Pro Championships. Then, in 2004, Meg Griffith-Ralston showed this talented sorrel gelding to win the prestigious RMRHA Summer Slide Non Pro Class. Sunrise Enterprise
Sunrise Enterprise was trained and shown by Doug Milholland to a 4th place finish at the NRHA Open Derby. They also won an AQHA Reserve World Championship in Jr Reining, and the Open Freestyle Reining at the Congress.


Denim Jac
Denim Jac is a lovely mare that Doug trained and showed to the NRHA Open Futurity Reserve Championship in 1991. She is the dam of Whizmatic, by Topsail Whiz, a stallion being shown by Doug Milholland; Dateline OKC, a horse that Doug was a NRHA Open Futurity Finalist on; and Tune Smith, a horse by CB Command that is an NRHA money earner and multiple AQHA Open and Amateur World Show Finalist.


Listo Pollito Lena
This horse was trained and shown by Doug as a 3 year old, placing 11th in the NRHA Open Futurity. Listo was then sold to Bob Thompson, who later had Jason Grimshaw show the horse with much success in FEI Competition as well as in NRHA Reining and AQHA Cowhorse events.





Durante Doc
This horse was trained and shown by Doug Milholland as a 3 year old, then sold to Jackie Krshka who went on to win numerous NRHA Bronzes on him. He was later sold to the West Coast area, where he continued to win up past 16 years of age.


No Fat Chics
This horse was trained as a 3 and 4 year old by Doug, after being in cutting training the first half of his three year old year. After Doug had him, Marilyn Peters showed him successfully in Working Cowhorse and the horse was most recently shown by Patricia Pollard, winning the Open Non Pro at the NRCHA Futurity.


Barflit Fritz
Trained by Doug Milholland in 1984, and shown by his assistant at the time, Flis Carey Sassella, this horse eventually was sold to Quebec, Canada. Shown by Guy Gauthier, he went on to win the NRHA Open World Championship title.
